At 6 p.m. on June 24th (KST), Red Velvet officially made their comeback with “COSMIC”, a special album to celebrate the girl group’s 10th debut anniversary.
However, after the album was released on music sites and dance challenge videos were even posted on TikTok, “COSMIC” MV was still nowhere to be seen. K-pop fans were all confused as they had been waiting for the music video eagerly.
A few minutes later, RED Production, SM’s label in charge of managing Red Velvet, released a notice announcing a delay in the release of the girl group’s new music video. They said, “The MV ‘COSMIC’ by Red Velvet, scheduled to premiere at 6 p.m. today (KST) is delayed due to post-production processing to enhance the quality of the MV. We are very sorry to the fans and hope you understand”.
Following the notice, fans expressed disappointment in SM’s poor management, pointing out that the MV delays happened too many times and the lack of proper promotion for Red Velvet’s 10th debut anniversary comeback. Some commented, “I cannot understand this. They delayed the MV again. It’s even the group’s 10th debut anniversary MV”, “Well, this is not the first time… the same thing also happened on the 10th debut anniversary of a senior group from SM”, “Not the 10th debut anniversary comeback…”, “NCT Wish music was leaked, and Red Velvet’s MV got delayed for enhancing quality. I don’t understand what SM is doing”, etc.
45 minutes later, “COSMIC” MV was officially uploaded on YouTube. From the teasers, fans already predicted that the theme of the music video was inspired by the horror film “Midsommar” released in 2019. The MV has a dreamy yet mysterious atmosphere, very Red Velvet-like.
The title track “COSMIC” is an exciting pop dance song with a cheerful guitar bass riff, disco sounds, and a spectacular string synth. The song lyrics are like a fairytale about the fateful meeting between me, a lonely star, and you, a traveler who suddenly appears, and then both learn about loving indefinitely with big hearts as large as the universe. This song is a collaboration between SM’s famous producer KENZIE and Moonshine producing team.
